A champion in any sport has a huge target on his back, but when they fight in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), the biggest and baddest men on the planet are gunning for you at all times, title shot or not. In the fifteenth year, 97 History of the UFC events have only 11 fighters defended his title more once. This list of elite fighters have earned their place justice in UFC history, as many critics and fans of the sport believe that one is not really a champion until he has successfully defended his belt. Those who have done more than once are clearly the cream of the crop. So who is the greatest of all time?

The following is the list of UFC fighters with several successful title defenses. You decide who's the best of the best is. If the main criterion is the number of consecutive successful defenses, Anderson Silva is undoubtedly the king. If the total number of defenses is your yardstick, Matt Hughes get approval. And if the caliber of competition Champion is also a consideration, I think most defended Silva.

1. Matt Hughes (WW) – defenders: 7
Matt Hughes was and is a UFC legend. He defended his title with a total of seven times for two separate stays as UFC welterweight champion. During his first term as the champion who defended in five straight times against the likes of Gil Castillo and Frank Trigg (lol). I'm having fun here, but with a low note, Matt Hughes has overcome the burden of quality fighters over his illustrious career, however, looking at his list of opponents that will surely not compare to Anderson Silva's.

Despite all the undeserved criticism he got from UFC 97, remains the champion of UFC middleweight and pound for pound king. His streak of defenses and the challenges he has beaten is nothing less than extraordinary!

3. Tito Ortiz (TSL) — defenses: 5
UGH! It hurts to have to put the "Huntington Beach Bad Boy" on this list, but facts are facts. Tito defended his light heavyweight title from 2000 until 2002, until Randy Couture took it from him. This is when Randy gave him the bad guy and deserved some form of corporal punishment in a humiliating beating … HA HA!

The "Iceman" has one of the most impressive streaks title defense. Including his victory over Randy Couture to win the title, won and defended the title five straight, TKO wins. Randy, Tito, Jeremy Horn and Renato Sobral all hands were victims of dynamite Chuck during his reign as champion.

5. Pat Miletich (WW) – Defense: 4
Miletich made his official UFC debut at UFC 16 and won the first UFC Lightweight Tournament. In 2001 the boundaries changed UFC weight class, the creation of the welterweight. at UFC 17: Ultimate Brazil, defeated Mikey Burnett and Pat became the first UFC welterweight champion. He spent to defend the welterweight belt four times before losing to Carlos Newton by submission at UFC 31.
