Mauricio Shogun Rua used to rumble through pride opponents with pure aggression. TKO kick for football and treads. Come on! Shogun hit people. He won in 2005, PRIDE Fighting Championship Grand Prix MW. If one party of the Shogun was the last rounds he could take a submission victory. In his first 18 fights only two went to the final bell and Shogun emerged victorious. Both wins were by submission unanimously.
Shogun is a powerful, pressing forward and Muay Thai BJJ black belt to punch your head or a kick in the ground until the end or the arbitrator saves. That's Shogun.
Before joining the UFC, Shogun list of victims, and I do not use the word lightly, are Evangelista Santos, Akihiro Gono, Quinton "BA Baracus, I'm done fighting," Jackson, Antonio Rogerio Nogueira, Alistair Overeem (x2), Ricardo Arona and Kevin Randleman. Many of these senior men were punished. This is the Shogun in the UFC signed, that is the Shogun UFC fans wanted and expected. What they got was something different.
The problem was that Shogun has knees, and sometimes do not always stay together. Shogun knee injury during training did not allow a competitive field and lacked the ability to compete against Forrest Griffin. After losing the first two rounds, Shogun succumed ultimately, to a rear naked choke in the final seconds of the third round. Shogun appeared exhausted. His fans slumped in his chair and looked puzzled. I remember that. I accept the excuse of injury / reason. I really do not like Shogun. There was also the fact that it was his first fight under the Unified Rules of MMA, not including kicks and knees to the head of a downed opponent. Injured, out of shape and lack of weapons. Shogun loses the match and the opportunity to make a first impression of UFC fans had not seen before.

Next opportunity Shogun was also a chance to avenge his earlier loss to Mark Coleman. This time UFC fans had the opportunity to see two well-known fighters hardly reach the end of the fight due to exhaustion. "Fight of the Night" or not does not impress me too much here except the fact that someone won it before falling asleep. I hope Machida is expecting the same.
That may be the downfall of the Shogun against Machida. Shogun aggressive style is exactly what a counter-puncher loves, and exactly what Machida is waiting. I think the accuracy and time proved too much for Machida Shogun.
Shogun coach, Andre Dida does not agree, "At the pace of fighting Lyoto forces, always looking for the knockout, I think this fight will not go beyond the third round. Shogun knock him out in the 3rd round for sure. Shogun will be the only type to show the world how to beat Lyoto. Everyone will learn how to beat Machida, etc. "
